You can check out the results of a benchmark script that legolass wrote

http://gladius.sourceforge.net/benchmark.htm

this should clear some fog up...

Hey, you did not tell me you were going to publish that page URL! ;)

Yes those are the benchmark results and the code is also available for download from there; it is obvious that processing the SQL syntax requires a lot of power, and that's because Gladius DB is slower.

However, I repeat, they are not the same software product because Gladius DB offers full SQL (most of SQL92) syntax support; you may look at that benchmark if you are going to write a new PHP application and need to choose your database system.

If you do not plan to change the database system in future, I suggest the usage of txtSQL, instead if you plan to use any other database system (MySQL, PostgreSQL etc.) in future extensions of the PHP application, it is better to use Gladius DB so that you won't be bound to a custom SQL syntax.

In a few words, if you are going to write an extensible and portable PHP application the best choice is Gladius DB + adoDB lite, otherwise if you just need a fast PHP script and do not need the standard SQL syntax it is better to use txtSQL because it is indeed faster.

Yes, I agree with you. txtSQL and Gladius aren't the same programs -- they both get the same job done, however. If you're planning switching databases, then maybe txtSQL is probably not a good idea until 4.0 is released sometime in the future.
